Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback techniques have evolved with surprising speed over the past few years. Much of the progress has been due to the pioneering, results-driven clinical research done by Sue Othmer. The data from this work, with results on over 12,000 cases, are presented in the 2nd edition of Restoring the Brain. Siegfried Othmer provides the theoretical explanations for how and why Neurofeedback has moved from QEEG based training to symptom driven training. The development of highly sensitive new hardware and software allow for training in the Infra Low Frequency range.

Physical Therapy for the Brain

"Neurofeedback addresses the physiological basis of behavior, the aspects that are accessible to us by virtue of our innate brain plasticity. With the appropriate set of tools, one then observes what can be accomplished in a training paradigm. Neurofeedback can be considered physical therapy for the brain." Siegfried Othmer, PhD, Chief Scientist, EEGinfo.

Client Testimonials

After my first session of Neurofeedback therapy, I felt very relaxed and slept better for a night. The feeling went away after about a day. Since then, I’ve had about 9 more sessions for a total of 10 and the relaxed feelings are extended. The sessions are producing a cumulative, positive effect (I am more relaxed and continue to sleep better) and I am slowly titrating off my meds while continuing the sessions. After 10 sessions, my PTSD Index using the 5-point VA scale dropped from 71 in March 2012 to 59 on June 29, 2012 (the lowest my score has been since I returned from Afghanistan…. My brain is working better. I am sleeping better. I have fewer nightmares, anxiety attacks, depression, and other PTSD dysfunctions…It’s the most promising therapy I’ve experienced so far compared to the previous 2 years of VA standard care including meds and talk therapy. I have a lot more hope now for some permanent, lasting improvement. E.K

Who knew anxiety was hobbling my brain? Certainly not I. But sometimes you don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone, and that is the case for me and my underlying anxiety. Everything from mundane chores to professional responsibilities is now less of a hassle. It seems like magic. F.W.

Human Connectome Project

The Human Connectome Project has done some pioneering work on the amazing connectivity of all parts of the brain to each other. The implications for Neurofeedback are that when we train one part of the brain, we often see overall improvements in emotional and physiological functioning because calming one part of the brain, will automatically have a beneficial effect on the rest of the brain.
